Coimbatore: Victoria Town Hall, a landmark building in the city, is being renovated to accommodate the Corporate Board after the election of the urban local agency.
The hall has a seat capacity of 72.
Because the city has developed to 100 nobles by interfering in the city and city of Panchayats, engineers work to accommodate 100 board members.
“The room will be narrow, but will be managed,” said an engineer.
The roof tiles are replaced and the wall gets a new paint layer.
The old electrical cable is also replaced.
A garden will be arranged to beautify the place.
“Small repair work was carried out and the hall was painted when undergoing renovation in 2014.
The structure is susceptible to leakage, which is being intended now,” said engineers.
The building was built in 1892 in honor of Queen Victoria.
The Board meeting was held there until 1953.
The library that functions there between 1953 and 1986.
It was then used for storage.
Although it was decided to destroy the building in the early 90’s, the local body resigned after protests from various quarters.
The structure was restored in 1992 at a cost of 15 lakh.
