VID activists oppose demand to cut cotton import duties

Nagpur: Agricultural activists from Vidarbha have opposed requests by the textile industry to cut or remove 11% import duties on cotton imports.
Because it will facilitate the import of cotton, this step will also reduce domestic prices, they said.
After a decade, farmers in Vidarbha have received a highly expected level for cotton plants.
Rates have touched RS 10,000 Quintal, but farmers are reported to have sold most of the products at this time.
The South Indian Mills Association (Sima) has demanded cutting in tasks.
Kishore Tiwari, Chairperson of the State Government Task Force on Agriculture, Vasantrao Increases Shetkari Swavalamban Mission (VNSSM), has been written to the center, said the government should not give up on pressure and protect the interests of farmers.
Vijay Jawandhia, a former Shetkari leader very, said that only because the high price of farmers can be managed this year.
It’s a rate at the usual level of Rs 5,000 to 6,000 Quintal, cotton cultivators may only end in losses.
“Comparison of past trends in tariffs shows that cotton takes better rates just because of rupee devaluation compared to the dollar,” he said.
The domestic raw cotton level depends on international fiber prices (processed cotton).
The current fiber is 128 cents per pound.
This brings raw cotton prices at RS 10,000 Quintal in India.
Back in 1994, fiber was 110 cents and at that time raw cotton was at the Rs 2,500 / Quintal.
Prices are higher now only because the dollar has become expensive compared to rupees.
In 1994, one dollar was equivalent to Rs 25 and now Rs 75, explained Jawandhia.
Traders can import small amounts with parity prices but it can work in influencing market sentiment and lowering domestic interest rates, he said.
Shetkari is really an annealed President Ghanwat, however, said if exports are allowed, imports can even be made free by eliminating tasks.
Task pieces will not have an impact on tariffs because international prices themselves are on the higher side.
However, the government should not bring other regulatory steps such as stock limits that will hamper free trade.
In the middle of a more expensive cotton, even the rate of animal feed has gone up.
This is because the de-oiling cake used as animal feed is made of cotton seeds.
The source says the price of higher animal feed can have an impact on the calculation of livestock breeding and that the price of milk purchases must be increased.
