Mumbai: A Vikhroli man returned home on Monday after spending 85 days at the hospital against Covid-19.
When his ambulance came out of the gate of the hospital L Hiranandani Powai, the 54-year-old Bharat Panchal family admitted it was the day they were not sure to arrive.
Panchal, who owns and manages a chemical shop in Vikhroli, down with a fever on April 8, about two weeks after taking a dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
His chances were stacked from him from the beginning, said his brothers, Dr.
Harish Panchal, because Bharat developed lung complications in the four-day range.
He turned from the oxygen need of high flow noses to non-invasive ventilation and ultimately into mechanical ventilation, all within a week.
The CT severity score reaches 21 out of 25 with alarming speed.
Bharat lives in the ventilator for more than 70 days, during that time he fought acute kidney injury, liver dysfunction, sepsis, multiorgan failure, lungs broke and even struggled from scare mucormycosis.
“He suffered any complications that patients may have Hiranandani.
This is the longest hospitalization that they have recorded in 15 months, he added.
From plasma, remedy and tovilizumab to various antibacterial and antifungal drugs, almost everything in the weapons warehouse is used, the doctor said.
When Bharat fought this disease physically, his family went through the same scary emotional battle, Dr.
Panchal said.
“The number 5 bed in the ICU has become the second home,” he said.
There was a point when Bharat had developed ICU psychosis and stopped communicating with his wife, son and daughter completely, said brother.
Because he was transferred to the non-covid ICU at that time, the family could meet him every day.
“These meetings make a lot of differences,” said Dr Panchal, who added that motivation from Dr.
Dwivedy and his colleagues, Dr.
Sajith Babu and Dr.
Maheema Bhaskar, made family expectations still alive.
Recovery Roller Coaster Bharat saw one last critical moment when his lungs began to bleed about two weeks ago.
“We thought that and we would lose him.
But the doctors managed to save him by repairing bleeding in the tracheostomy,” said the brother.
Rajesh goes home with minimal oxygen support.
The family has spent more than Rs 40 Lakh.
After the insurance runs out, they are charged according to the limited level of government, Panchal said.
The city general hospital has also met cases where patients have taken a long time to recover from Covid complications.
KEM Hospital Dean Dr.
Hemant Deshmukh said they had eight patients hospitalized in the range of 89 days to 150 days.
The 73-year-old Worli resident is the latest to be issued after 112 days of inpatient.
“Lung complications and involvement of other organs make a long and complicated infidelity recovery in some of them,” said Dr.
Deshmukh.
At B y L Nair, one of the doctors said that they had an inpatient for up to 60 days.
At Sevenhills Hospital, up to 15% of patients need to be hospitalized for more than 30 days.
