Bhubaneswar: About 250 residents of Panca Panchayat in District Nubeada have protested the location of the voting booth for rural polls, which is about 3 km from their village.
They have appealed to the district collector to shift the polling booth or make two rooms, if not, some elderly voters, pregnant and people with disabilities must travel remotely to train their franchises.
Residents who came under jurisdiction of wards 1 of Komna stayed in two places – 250 people in Komna Basti and 150 people in a small hamlet, a small hamlet.
Located 3 km from Komna.
While distributing voters to the booth, the district authorities reportedly included the name of all Komna Basti voters for the booth at Biswanathpur, where there were only 150 voters.
Dilip Hota, a village resident, who led the protest and sent a petition to the collector said, “both the authorities have to shift the poll’s booth somewhere, which is equally from Komna Basti and Biswanathpur, or make two booths in the location 1 in each location respectively.
In fact, the majority of voters are in Komna Basti and there must be a booth for the ward.
“The villagers say in their appeal that there are elderly people, pregnant women and disabled voters and they cannot travel remotely to vote.
“We have mentioned the alternative location in our petition,” Hota added.
District Panthayat officers Arjun Majhi said they were seeing complaints of villagers.
