Vines out, Sangeeta in; junior day out in the world senior c’ship trial

New Delhi: There is no end of Vietsh Phogat’s misery when the wrestler who was struggling pulled the middle road from the World Championship trial even when his cousin Sangeeta (62kg) made an extraordinary comeback for a mat after three years by sealing his place in the Indian team, here on the Indian team, here on Tuesday.

“While my father (Mahavir Phogat) has trained me on a mat, Bajrang made me motivated and also sweat with his input,” he said, adding that the Asian game next year and Commonwealth games were also on “my radar”.
Bajrang said the results beyond expectations.
“Honestly, we just want to see how his knees behave, if they hold.
We don’t expect to win.
I just told him to give the best,” he said.
In the same 62kg category, Rio Bronze Medal Sakshi Malik was eliminated by Manha.
Young children, who recently competed and did well at the Junior World Championship, outperformed a lot of seniors.
As many as five of them ordered their slots on the team before senior.
Shubham Kaushik first surprised the Senior National Pankaj 8-3 champion and then beat Railways’ Arun 8-4 to win the 57kg trial.

“I have a problem with my left elbow, that’s why I can’t play freely.
I get a good experience in Tokyo even though I can’t do it well.
It’s just the beginning for me at the senior level, I will get better,” he said .

Experienced Sarita Mor (59kg) Divya Kakran (72kg), indicated by WFI for the insulation, also qualified along with Hanny (50kg), Pooja Jatt (53kg), Bhiater (65kg), Ritu (68kg) and Kiran (76kg).
