Kolkata: Retired Calcutta Chief of the High Court of Manjula Chelur will lead to a sitting formed by the High Court to investigate cases of violence after the polls reported during the Assembly poll in the state.
Previously, on August 19, Calcutta HC had ordered the Probe of the Investigation Bureau (CBI) monitored by the court into the incidence of violence after the poll in the state.
The court has ordered a special investigation team (sitting) for senior investigations and officers from West Bengal cadres will be part of the team.
Meanwhile, the special leave petition has been submitted challenging the orders of the Calcutta High Court in the Supreme Court.
The committee seven members founded by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) previously looked into the incident of violence after the election of the West Bengal Assembly and recommended the CBI investigation monitored by the court.
On the other hand, the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) has also registered a total of 21 fires in connection with the case so far.
