Virender ‘Goongga Pehlwan’ urged Haryana Govt to recognize deaf athletes

New Delhi: Wrestler Virender Singh Yadav, who was among Padma Shri Awardes this year, has asked Minister Haryana Manohar’s head Lal Khattar to recognize the country’s deaf sportsmen like him as athletes.
Singh, who was born in Sasoli near Jhajjar in Haryana, could not speak or hear.
On Wednesday, he posted a photo of him sitting on the path outside Haryana Bhawan here with Padma Shri, Arjuna Award and other international medals.
“The honorable minister of the ML Khattar, I sat on your path from Delhi Haryana Bhawan’s residence and I would not move from here until you did not give the same right to deaf players like athletes athletes, then why not you?” Singh tweeted .

Deaflympics is recognized by the International Paralympic Committee but deaf athletes are not part of a more famous paralympic game.
Singh accepted Shri Padma from President Ram Nath Kovind at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, a photo tweeted by Khattar, congratulations to the realized grappler that inspired famous documentaries about his life called ‘Goongga Pehelwan’.
