Vadodara: For decades, they are ignored and often filled with waste.
But in Diwali this year, Ghats on the Wiswamitri River became alive with hundreds of Diyas lit up there.
A group of Barodians had gathered and illuminated Ghats near the circle of Ghoda on November 4.
Ghats which was once a popular place among the residents of Baroda countries used to light up with Diyas during the Gaekwadi era.
“During a period of time, we forget the inheritance and importance of the site.
So, we decided to celebrate Diwali on this year this year,” said Vishal Thakur, who has held a program to spread the awareness of the Wiswamitri river.
Thakur, Sanjay Soni and several other citizens came together and cleaned Ghats at night Diwali.
“We removed all the garbage and cleaned the Ghats which was in a slum condition.
On Diwali’s day, we draw Rangoli and then turn on Ghats with Diyas.
It was a charming experience when Ghats Vishwamitri resembled Ghats in Ayodhya,” said Thakur told toi.
“Many residents appear for this program and we discuss how to revive the river and restore Ghats.
By organizing such events, we can involve more citizens and revive the river that has historical significance for us,” Thakur added.
This group has held several programs and works to save not only the river but hundreds of crocodiles who live in Vishwamitri.
