Islamabad: Point Point Washington in Talks aimed at the end of the decade of war in Afghanistan made a short visit on Monday to Pakistan because the relationship between Islamabad and Kabul reached low.
Visit Zalmay Khalilzad was only hours after Afghanistan pulled his ambassador from Pakistan at the end of the week after diplomat’s daughter was brutally attacked last week.
The US envoy meets with the head of the strong army of Pakistan General Qamar Javed Bajwa but no one is known to their discussion.
Pakistan and Afghanistan have a long and problematic history, their relationship is full of distrust and suspicion.
Each accused the other one to drink violence in his area while also hiding his enemies.
Pakistan also hosted nearly 2 million Afghans, refugees from four decades of war in their homeland, and many in Afghanistan had grown as refugees in Pakistan before returning.
Khalilzad arrived at Islamabad from Qatar where the Taliban and Afghan government representatives had held two days of conversation that ended at the end of the week, with an appointment by the conflicting party to meet again.
It is the highest level of negotiations so far, aimed at paralyzing the peace process that has stagnated for months when fighting in Afghanistan soared when the US and NATO resolved the withdrawal of their troops.
Khalilzad has expressed hope that the parties will agree even for the temporary ceasefire – to mark the most important Islamic holidays, Eid al-Adha or “sacrificial parties,” which began on Tuesday in most Muslim countries.
Instead, the discussion ends with a communique that offers a little final prospect to fight in the near future.
This promises high-level talks and offers greater protection promises for Afghan civilians who are arrested in a shootout and for infrastructure.
Last week, Khalilzad attended an international conference in Uzbekistan who tried to find a resolution for the worsening situation in Afghanistan but the meeting did not produce a road map to end the battle.
Pakistan is seen as a key peace in Afghanistan.
Taliban leadership headquartered in Pakistan and Islamabad has used his leverage, which he said is now reduced, to press the Taliban to speak peacefully.
However, Kabul was very critical of the help of Islamabad to the Taliban, including hospital care for Taliban fighters who were injured in battle in Afghanistan.
In the last battle in the city of Spin Boldak in Southeast Afghanistan, Taliban fighters were seen receiving care at Pakistani hospital across the border in Chaman.
Pakistani Pakistani senior official said that Khalilzad pressed Pakistan to encourage Taliban leaders to embrace ceasefire or at least substantially reduced violence in Afghanistan to enable the peace process to root.
Officials speak with anonymous requirements because they are not authorized to talk to the media.
Pakistani military leadership was reported to warn the Taliban – who recently took more areas in the middle of the battlefield against the surrounded Afghan forces – not to encourage kabul.
Islamabad also reported told the Taliban, it would not recognize the government in power force.
Pakistan is also very critical of Kabul, said that it has enabled other militant groups, Pakistan Taliban – Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan – to find salvation in Afghanistan from where they have launched more and more attacks targeting the Pakistani military.
While two separate rebel groups, the Taliban leaders Afghanistan had a close relationship with Pakistan Taliban.
Some analysts said Pakistan was worried that if it pushed the Afghanistan Taliban too hard, they would, in turn, pushing the Pakistani Taliban to increase their attack.
In Kabul, the Afghan Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Sunday said that it was given its senior diplomats from Islamabad for attacks on the ambassador’s daughter.
Silsila Alikhil, 26, was kidnapped in the middle of the afternoon in the capital of Pakistan, held for several hours, and was brutally attacked.
The ministry said the diplomats would not return to Islamabad “until all security threats were met including the arrests and trial of kidnapping players”.
