Zagreb: Grandmaster India Viswanathan Anand defeated former world champion Garry Kasparov in a lot of awaited contest from the Chess Grand Creatia tour here on Saturday.
Playing with white chips, Chennai-based Maestro dropped Kasparov in 30 steps in the Variation of Najdorf Sicillian in the fourth round of Blitz.
Ace Ace India, however, go to Ian Nepomniachtchi Ian Russia, the top seed here, in the round of five.
He was placed six after five rounds with 11.5 points.
Anand has started Blitz’s competition with the defeat at the hands of the Dutch GM Gm Giri before bouncing back with a victory over Jan-Kryzstof widower from Poland.
He then shared points with French GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the third round.
Former world champion ended seventh after a quick section with nine points.
He has posted two wins and draws five and loses two matches.
Anand returned to over-the-board action after March 2020 and continued its competition with Kasparov who played the Blitz program alone here.
