Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Saturday appointed 1987 Batch Batch officers, VK Bhawra, as the new head of the National Police, almost hours before the announcement of the election commission on the polling assembly in the country, replacing Siddharth Chattopadhyaya.
Bhawra is the third DGP in the post in just three months from the Congress government led by Chararjit Channi.
Chattopadhyaya replaced the senior Iqbal Preeting Singh Sahota IPS officer just three weeks back in mid-December.
After taking over the allegations of the Punjab Director General of Police, Bhawra said the Punjab police would ensure the smoothness of the election and that they were detained in a tricky manner.
In addition to ensuring the smooth fluency, Bhawra said the focus will eradicate drugs and terrorism from the country.
He added that the police centered on people and public services was one of the top priorities.
DGP said that troops would use optimal technology to investigate various crimes.
The General Election Election Commission in October 2016 Handpicked Bhawra as a Nodal officer for the election of the 2017 Punjab Assembly.
During his previous center deputation, Bhawra was on duty at the intelligence agency.
The Punjab government, who wanted UPC to consider inaugurated the State Police Chief and 1986-Batch Siddharth Siddharth Chatttopadhyaya among the three officers who were suitable for posts, had to face shame because UPSC dred the name Chattopadhyaya since March 31.
