JAKARTA: Semeru Indonesia volcano on the island of Java erupted earlier on Sunday spewing a high ash column of two km (1.24 miles), encouraging authorities to warn people to stay away from the reach of the eruption.
Earlier this month, Semeru eruption, the highest mountain of Java, expelled clouds of ash and pyroclastic flow which killed at least 46 people and left some missing people, while thousands of displaced people.
On Sunday, the early morning eruption produced solid white and gray ash clouds, according to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazards Mitigation (PVMBG).
The agency warns the closest population not to do any activities within a radius of five km (three miles) from the center of the eruption and to keep a distance of 500 meters (1,500 feet) from the river bank due to the risk of lava flow.
PVMBG also told people not to carry out any activities within 13 km (eight miles) southeast of the eruption center.
With 142 volcanoes, Indonesia has the largest population that lives globally at close range to volcanoes, including 8.6 million in 10 km (six miles).
