Thiruvananthapuram: a group of volunteers associated with the village library here has helped residents across technology barriers to get themselves vaccinated.
Aksharasena (letter forces) which serves as part of Sandhya Grameena Grandhasala in Tholicodode Panchayat has reached almost 100% vaccination for Pulichamala residents.
Volunteers, a group of young people, so far helped 712 people registered online for Covid-19 vaccination.
From 712, only a few have not received their Jab.
With online registration made mandatory, there is chaos among several local residents Pulichamala.
Many find it difficult to register on the portal.
“When we realize that many of our regions, including parents, do not understand how to register online, we feel that it is our responsibility to help them.
Otherwise they have to fight a lot to allow registration and vaccination,” RK said Rahul, library organizers.
A complete immunization, these children form a Covid Aksharasena vaccination assistance table and through the WhatsApp group, collect details of residents who need help.
During the initial phase, they gather information about people who qualified for vaccination in their families.
After completing their registration, they expand their activities to other occupants as well.
In addition to the local population Pulichamala, people who live in various fields of Paloda and Vithura also benefit from their services.
They also ensure that people receive their Jab at the scheduled time.
“If they find it difficult to visit the vaccination center, we also make the settings needed,” Rahul said.
The aid desk that functions in the library has almost 22 volunteers.
When strict locking restrictions are appointed, volunteers visit houses to collect details of people who have not been registered for vaccination.
Also, these children provide awareness about the need to be vaccinated.
“Some are hesitant to vaccinate.
They are confused about the need to get vaccinations.
In such cases, we give them awareness about the same thing and convince them to be vaccinated,” Rahul said.
The maximum registration they did on the day was 32.
The team was not finished.
They now help relatives of local residents living in different areas.
