New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chair of Rajya Sabha M Venkaiiah Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla together launched Sansad TV on Wednesday.
Sansad TV is a merging of TV channels Lok Sabha and Rajha Sabha and will showcase democratic ethos and the functioning of state democratic institutions.
It will aim to target national and international audiences through its content.
Speaking at the launch, PM Modi said that Sansad TV would add to other important chapters in the Indian parliamentary system.
The launch of Sansad TV coincides with the day of international democracy.
“Today is the International Day of Democracy, therefore the launch becomes more relevant.
When it comes to democracy, India’s responsibility is increasing.
India is the mother of democracy.
For us democracy is not just a constitutional structure, but enthusiasm, it is ‘Jeevan Dhara’,” said PM Modi.
The Prime Minister said that new channels will be available on the OTT platform, social media and have separate cellular applications too.
Vice President Naidu said the parliament was the heart of Indian democracy while the media was “eyes and ears” and we must ensure their health.
He said a disturbing sound that could not sink the voice of the people in the legislature.
To be led by retired civil servants Ravi Capoor, which was appointed as his chief executive for one year from March 2021, Sansad TV is likely to have two operational platforms that will free the direct process of Sabha and Rajha Sabha when the parliament is in the session.
Cooking channels, Karan Singh will host a show of different religions, Bibek Deboy on history and Amitabh Kant on ‘Transformation India’.
The main economic counsel of the Ministry of Finance Sanjeev Sanyal will host a show on the economy while the famous endocrinologist Dr.
Ambrish Mithai will moderate health shows.
