Wadhwana to count winged visitors on January 7

Vadodara: One of the biggest wetlands in the state is ready to go for a bird census.
The forest department has decided to count the number of migration birds visiting Lake Wadhwana on January 7.
After getting the recognition of the Ramsar site, this is the first bird census to be carried out on the lake and adjacent sites.
“This will be a complicated census in which birds where flying from various parts of the country and other countries will be counted.
Our team will conduct a census in two parts – one in the morning and the other at night.
We will then arrange numbers That, “said HD Raiolji, assistant forest conservator, Vadodara.
The Ministry of Forestry has divided the lake, a small water body and the surrounding sites in 13 zones and one team will be deployed for each zone.
Eight zones for lakes and five outside the lake area.
The majority of birds are seen flying on the lake or perched on a mound in the body of the water.
In the last census, the Ministry of Forestry has adopted a new calculation system by tracing two scientists from natural history (BNHS).
In the number of birds held in January 2021, more than 64,000 birds from 133 species were seen in and around Wadhwana Lake.
The amount is far less than the 2020 bird census when the lake hosts 83,000 birds and 200 species.
Forest officers said that the lake was full of water in January 2021 and therefore many birds lay eggs in the adjacent fields or Berawa Land.
When they asked if they expected a higher number of birds in this census, Raolji told Tii, “We have done a census.
With an NGO two weeks ago and counting around 60,000 birds.
Water levels are now down on the lake so we hope to see More birds in our official census.
“A detailed report including the total number of birds along with a variety of winged guests will be prepared by the Ministry of Forestry.
