LONDON: Wales shield James Lawrence has pulled from the state’s Euro 2020 squad because of accident, together with Luton’s Tom Lockyer known as replace the St Pauli centre-back.
Lawrence was contained in Wales’ 26-man European Championship group on Sunday.
Yet, scans over the injury revealed Lawrence wouldn’t be prepared for the championship, which begins on June 11.
“James Lawrence has had to draw from your Euro 2020 squad because of injury,” that the Football Association of Wales said on Monday.
“After having a scan yesterday it has been shown that he’ll unfortunately lose out on the last tournament with an accident which may rule him from playing for a couple of weeks.
“We want James Lawrence all of the best with his healing.
Lawrence’s withdrawal provides means to Tom Lockyer who narrowly missed out on choice from the 26 named group ” Lawrence, with nine international limits, was a possible newcomer in Wales’ launching Euro 2020 match against Switzerland at Baku on June 12.
The 28-year-old began both the Wales’ 2022 World Cup qualifiers from Belgium and the Czech Republic in March.
Lockyer has won 13 limits and missing out on selection to its first group following injury ruled him out of their last 3 weeks of Luton’s year old.
Meanwhile, the Wales captain Gareth Bale admits it will not be easy for his group to successfully replicate their own Euro 2016 achievement.
Bale and business made it into the semi-finals within their very first appearance at a significant championship for 58 decades.
