BENGALURU: To mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Karnataka police on Saturday destroyed around 24,000 kg of drugs, worth over Rs50 crore.
Home minister Basavaraj Bommai termed the burning of narcotic substances seized by police a historic moment.
Bommai, along with senior IPS officers, including director general and inspector general of police Praveen Sood, and city police commissioner Kamal Pant, took part in an oath-taking ceremony against drug abuse, organised at city police commissioner’s office on Infantry Road.
Bommai said: “Our war against drugs will continue.
What we have destroyed today (on Saturday) is 60% of the seized stock.
The remaining 40% shall be destroyed after obtaining court permission.”
