Pune: As a state electricity distribution company Maharashtra Limited (MSEDCL) has begun to take action against consumers with delayed power bills even a month, Vivek Velankar activist said that the electricity company must serve previous notifications to consumers before taking from their supply.
“Before issuing formal notifications, MSEDCL could not cut the power supply in accordance with Part 56 of the 2003 Electricity Law,” he said.
In accordance with MSEDCL, more than one supply of Lakh’s consumer electricity in West Maharashtra was cut in September for failing to pay contributions.
Velankar said consumers were often not aware of the notice 15 days before before power was cut, so MSEDC had to obey it.
A MSEDCL official said they served notifications on registered cellphone numbers of consumers via SMS.
However, the official did not realize if a physical copy of the notification was presented or not.
“Since these days are almost all done through registered cellphone numbers, previous intimacy about reading, bills, and units are given from time to time via SMS to consumers.
So is a notification that if they fail to pay the amount of electricity bills that are delayed in the deadline determined, they will face action.
“The official said.
