Jammu: The Army has intensified the patrol to maintain strict vigiles along the control line (LOC) in the twin border district of Rajouri and Poonch ahead of the 75th anniversary of the independence, officials said on Saturdays.
High levels of vigilance and patrol by the army have required input after terrorists waiting in the launch bearing across LOC to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir, they said.
“Notification of army soldiers patrolling and maintaining strict vigilance along the Loc before the celebration of independence day to fight any evil design with initial elements in the Poonch and Rajouri sectors,” said a military official.
The multi-agency border grid has been included in a high alert to fight cross-border terrorist design, said source.
The Police and Village Defense Committee (VDC) was also asked to remain vigilant as part of the security grid to oversee infiltration, they said.
After initials ‘zero infiltration’ after a new ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan in February, a new effort to encourage terrorists from all borders where 250 to 300 trained ultras waited in the bearing launch, General Police General Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh said on the day Tuesday.
“Training camps and launch bearings run by the contents of Pakistan and other institutions are full of their capacity.
We usually assume the number of terrorists in such camps remains between 250 and 300 who are trained and ready to be launched to Jammu and Kashmir,” Singh said.
Jawan bad weather and unfriendly terrain to patrol the 24×7 Loc from their postal location to monitor the area, especially the three-level border fence, which is a main anti-infiltration barrier system, officials said.
The Rajouri-Poonch border sector, consisting of thick conifera wood, deep valleys, rock-cut mountains, is now the target of Pakistani troops, bat and terrorist teams.
The twin border district was once the largest infiltration area because there was a launch of the bearing and a terrorist training camp crossing the Loc in the Nikiyal sector ready to encourage armed terrorists, police officials said.
