Secunderabad: In the first case, nearly 70 housing welfare associations (RWAS) installed the front united in opposing the decision of the Secunderabad Cantonment Agency (SCB) to privatize garbage collection in Ward-V.
Under the Aegis Confederation Cantonment Rwas (CCRWAS), they demand that SCB continue with the existing garbage collection system for more than two decades.
Among the main reasons for opposition are higher charges that will be collected from residents.
RWA’s representative said, “SCB plans to collect ‘abnormal’ charges that will be an additional burden on occupants.” Under the new system, Rs 100 a month will be collected per household and Rs 50 per household in slums.
More than 70 President and Secretary Rwas at SCB Ward No-V met at Vasavi Nagar Community Hall on Tuesday.
Telukunta Satish Kumar Gupta, President, the Association of Welfare Vasavi Nagar Old, who held a meeting, told Ti, soon the representation would be given to the Chief Executive Officer SCB, B Ajith Reddy, urged the continuation of the previous system.
In the last week of January, SCB officials launched garbage collection from door to door under personal management.
It began as a pilot project at Ward No-I (Bowenpally) and was being expanded to another ward.
However, citizens are afraid there will be a break from the previous system that works well for them.
Many are wondering what requires change.
Highlighting the fate of workers, Dilip Appa Rao, Secretary, Radhika Colony Rwa, said, “Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, workers raised domestic waste from the stairs of their health.
Now, SCB’s new initiative will replace existing workers and inhibit the entire process of garbage collection also.
