Noida: Untreated waste flows to Yamuna, improving construction, trimming trees and excessive sound pollution from nearby traffic are some of the reasons that have been quoted by environmental lovers for the species of migration birds that fall at this year’s Achla Sanctuary.
According to him the Asian Waterbird Census (AWC), there has been more than 35% decreasing the number of species seen in Canctuary Okhla compared to 2021.
This, the Census said, is the lowest in the sanctuary – spread in 400 hectares – in four years.
What’s more, the number of resident species IUCN was seen in Sanctuary this year almost twice from tally the previous year.
However, the total number of birds that look up.
While 8,068 birds from 73 species can be counted last year, this year, 9,243 birds were seen only from 47 species.
Kologi Roy, who is also an AWC Delhi coordinator from Wetlands International, said the total number of birds has gone only because of the North shovel, which looks in large quantities.
According to Roy, the authorities need to immediately overcome problems such as concretization, pollution, exaggerated trimming trees and plant ornamental trees than those that produce fruit.
Roy said when he was delayed in winter because global climate change slowed the migration of birds in North India, several local factors also blamed too.
“About 22 channels in Delhi let go of waste directly into Yamuna, causing the main water pollution.
The natural habitat of the birds has also been affected due to concretization, tree trimming, sound pollution, etc.,” he said.
In February last year, the Ministry of Forestry urged the Delhi government to ensure that the waste produced into Yamuna was treated.
, said that “excessive pollution” on the river had a negative impact on the bird population in Okhla.
It should be noted that the wetland “starts smell” along with the presence of oil and oil seen in the water.
With two cottages, rooms and several concrete lines and benches built by the forestry department in the sanctuary are the main causes of interference for birds.
“The Forestry Department has claimed they are only prefabricated huts.
But they have been built after digging 8-10ft wetlands, which have influenced the place perched for birds.
Previously, Birders would sit here during a visit.
In the environmental sensitive zone, construction of all types Banned by the 2010 Supreme Court order.
Furthermore, excessive trimming trees along the boundary wall is not conducive to the birds, “he said.
VIRONMENTALIS Vikrant Tongad told toi the power line through the sanctuary should not be in the first place.
“Also, the electricity department only uses excessive tree trimming, reducing tree cover along the boundary.
The trimming occurs once a year, but occurs on a massive scale,” he said.
Bell agrees.
“Branches of large trees such as banyan, etc.
have been roughly cut.
More and more ornamental trees are planted along the boundaries instead of fruits that will support habitats,” he said.
Districtih Forest Officer PK Srivastava said the census was only based on one day.
“The cottage has been made for researchers and forest training participants only have a class during the day.
If the government commands us to use it to stay the night, it can be done later.
They are made of prefabricated material.” He added, “Tree trimming was done because of 1 lakh Volt Power Line that passes through the sanctuary.
Technically, this line should not be allowed to pass the sanctuary.
But it was done because the sanctuary fell in the Chambal division.
At present, there is no mechanism to be made underground.
Trimming is done only after permission from Head of the Principal’s forest conservator.
“VK Singh, Executive Engineer in the Irrigation Department, said they had recently planted interest around the increasing limit to ensure people did not enter the place and throw garbage.
