New Delhi: There are 13 general waste treatment plants (CETPS) in the city to treat waste released from 17 industrial areas, but most of them failed to comply with water quality standards that were allowed for about two years.
Delhi pollution control committee (DPCC) has imposed compensation for total environmental damage 12.05 crore at a dozen Cetps because it does not meet the green parameters.
Experts say as Cetps does not meet water quality standards, untruited effluents that contain heavy metals entering Yamuna through waterways.
According to the DPCC, the monthly analysis report shows 12 CETPS has not met water quality standards prescribed in terms of biochemical dissolved oxygen (BOD), total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), chloride and sulfide.
Some of them don’t work well.
Analysis by the Department of Environment shows that the industry in 17 fields is connected with this plant.
13 CETPS has a total capacity of treating waste 212.3 months.
Manoj Mishra, Conventor of Yamuna Jiye Abhiyan, said, “The base of CETPS is to treat waste released from the industry.
Without treatment, polluted water originating from industries containing heavy metals reaching Yamuna.
When toxic industrial waste, it is dangerous for life entities , Including humans.
Everyone who uses untreated water will consume heavy metals and can cause disease.
“Mishra said the wastewater ideally must be treated and given back to the industry to be reused so that there was no liquid discharge.
Bhim Singh Rawatat, a Yamuna activist and part of the South Asian network on the dam, the river and people, told TII, “Restoring water treated to the industry helps in reducing industrial dependence on fresh water.” He added that Cetps did not obey the parameters of water quality and a polluting river were the problems faced throughout the country.
A DPCC official said, “according to our analysis, 12 CETPS has been found not adhere to the standard of effluent which is prescribed even after repeating instructions.
We have implemented a fine of RS 12.05 Crore.
Eleven CETP people and two plant operators in Narella and Bawana are also directed at Immediately take the steps for the repairs needed to meet the specified standards.
