SURAT: Three women were caught on CCTV camera at a jewellery store in Sarthana area while stealing two gold chains worth Rs 1 lakh.
Keeping the saleswoman busy in talks and diverting her attention they stole the gold chains while sitting right in front of her on the other side of the display desk.
Police booked three unidentified women in Sarthana police station on Friday for allegedly stealing two gold chains weighing a total 20 gram and worth Rs 1 lakh.
The complaint was lodged by Sanjay Trada, owner of Manki Jewellers.
On May 28, the women came as customers and asked to show gold chains.
While checking the chains they stole two of them.
The women were dressed in simple clothes.
They arrived at around 11.25 pm and left within a few minutes stealing the gold chains.
The store staff noticed in the evening that the chains were missing from stock.
“Diverting the attention of the saleswomen, they stole the gold chains.
I am checking with other jewellers in the area if a theft was carried out in a similar pattern from their shop,” Trada told TOI.
Photos and video of the women are being circulated by police in Sarthana area and nearby police stations to identify the women.
