Letter: With heavy rainfall in the catchment area, the surface of the UKAI reservoir continues to increase.
Water currents, which were 1.43 lakh cusecs on Wednesday, increased to 2.23 lakh cusecs at 8pm on Thursday.
At present the dam level is 337 feet.
“There was an increase in water flow due to heavy rains in the Ukai water catchment area on Thursday.
We will continue to fill the dam up to 340 feet and that level will be maintained until September 15.
The water level will increase further up to 345 feet until October 1,” SR said Mahakal, umai circle supervisor engineer.
“Because enough water in the reservoir, we will be able to supply water for irrigation in five South Gujarat Regency, drinking water to more than 80 Lakh populations including the city of Letters and 112 industrial units.
Water will be available throughout the year,” Mahakal added.
UKAI Water is the main source of drinking water supply for city population letters when supplying water to farm also through canal networks.
At present two hydro-power power units, each capacity of 2.5 megawatts, operations in the reservoir.
If the water level increases further, the reservoir authority will start four hydro power units of 75 megawatt capacity.
