At: Panaji, Taleigao, Santa Cruz Constitution and the parts of the Constituency of St.
Andre witnessed the lack of water on Wednesday after the contractor who founded the electricity pole damaging the main pipeline near the Banastarim Bridge Bridge on Tuesday afternoon.
Agasaim and Cortalim, both villages in St.
Andre, were not affected when they received water from Selaulim plants.
However, according to water division officials, the need for drinking water in the affected area is fulfilled by supplying water through a tanker.
Wednesday night, the Water Division announced that there would be limited water supplies to Panaji, Taleigao, Santa Cruz Constitution and part of St Andre’s constituency on Thursday.
Santosh Mhapne, Chief Engineer, Water Division, Public Works Department (PWD) said the electrical contractor damaged the pipeline while digging a hole to set up a new pole along the service road in Banastarim.
The 900-mm tenacious iron pipe carries water from the Opa water treatment plant to four Tiswadi Taluka constituencies.
In a broken location, the line is placed on a concrete pedestal.
The contractor directly explores the area without checking whether there is a pipe or underground cable, Nivruti Parsekar, Water Division Executive Engineer, said.
