Tenkasi: Shutters of Four Reservoirs in Tenkasi Regency in Tamil Nadu opened on Wednesday for 32,024.58 hectares of agricultural land.
The release of Sluices is based on the direction of Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday to get the benefits of 27,293.75 hectares in Tenkasi Regency and 4,730.82 hectares in the Tirunelveli district in the rice cultivation season.
Water will be released from Ramanathi, Karupanadi, Gadana, and Dam Kovil Awavinainar for 148 days to 30 March next year.
Water will fill 171 tanks in Tenkasi District and 59 tanks in the Tirunelveli district.
While 9,213.9 hectares will be directly irrigated from water released on the river, the majority of 22,810.6 hectares will be irrigated indirectly through 230 tanks in both districts.
The 85-foot gadana dam which has 83 feet of water on Tuesday will irrigate 9,923 hectares.
This includes direct irrigation of 3,987 hectares and indirect irrigation 5,935 hectares through 82 tanks in tubkasi, ambassyamudam and chanmahadevi blocks.
A total of 1,653.87 MCFT will be released from the dam at 125 cusecs in the next 21 weeks.
The robupanadhi dam which is also almost full of 69.56 feet in Kadayanallur, Veerokeralampudur and Sankarankovil blocks.
Adavinainar Kovil Dam which has 127.25 feet water on Wednesday against a capacity of 132.2 feet will issue 955.39 MCFT in the word 148 days on no more than 100 cusecs.
The reservoir will benefit 2,147 hectares directly and 5,496 hectares indirectly through 43 tanks in Tenkasi, Sengottai, Kadayanallur and Veeperalampudur blocks.
Ramanathi dam which has 79 feet of water against a full reservoir capacity of 84 feet will benefit 4,934 hectares with 824 MCFT with 60 cusecs.
1,527 hectares will benefit directly and 3,416 hectares indirectly through 33 tanks of this dam.
