Waterbodies to recharge contaminated Hindon

Ghaziabad: District ground water management council, led by district judges, has proposed a waterbodies developed around the Hindon River to increase the capacity of charging its water.
Scouting officials for government land where water can be developed.
So far, land has been identified in the Sihani, Arthala and Kamhera regions.
Environmental lovers have the view that the Hindon Fed Rain is one of the most polluted rivers and keeping the surface of the desired water on the river will also help in diluting pollutants.
It will also increase city ground water capacity, which is now available at 30 m in a critical area.
“The problem of Hindon’s rejuvenation was discussed in a recent meeting of the district council.
In the meeting, the steps were advised to improve the health of the river,” said Ghaziabad DM RK Singh.
“One important suggestion is to develop waterbodies around the river, to increase rechargeable capacity.
Members have surveyed the banks of the river,” Singh added.
Akash Vashishhtha from the community for environmental protection and biodiversity (spenbio) which is also a member of the district council, said: “By increasing the river refill capacity, it will serve two goals.
Excessive water on the river will help withdraw pollutants and also help improve the water table , “added Vashishhtha.
Meanwhile, according to the ground water department up, the water table in the district has shrunk at the level of 2.67 feet since 2016.
Noornagar in the Sihani region registers the steepest thinning of groundwater.
From 29.43m in 2016, it fell to 48.31 m in 2020 – thinning 18.88M, followed by Vijay Nagar, which registered the thinning of 8.49 million in the same period.
DM also proposed coordination between departments to improve the health of the river.
“The good part of the river flows through Ghaziabad.
We have suggested GDA, upsidc, housing boards and Panchayats homes ensure that the river is managed in areas falling under this department and institution,” Singh said.
“Also, the Forestry Department has been asked to identify and ensure plantations along the river bank,” Singh added.
Hindon is a river that was given a rainy rain along Ghaziabad, Meerut, Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Gautam Budd Nagar before emptying Yamuna.
Because of the high level of pollution, the river is said to be a dead river.
According to the central pollution control board report, the water quality in Hindon is even “not feasible” to take a shower.
