WB: 2nd wave see more death without co-morbidity

Kolkata: More people with co-morbidity are known to have died because Covid during the second wave of pandemic in Bengal, with contrast to what was observed during the first wave, when more people with co-morbidities were killed, in a clear indication of how to turn off the wave Second actually, data suggests.
Until the end of April, 18.3% of Covid’s total deaths in Bengal did not have co-morbidity.
The figure jumped up to 28.3% in May-end and rose slightly to 30.3% at the end of July, where he had stabilized to date.
The overall case mortality rate (CFR) – the proportion of individuals diagnosed with Covid who died of it – in the second wave, however, lower than the first.
Bengal CFR remains around 1.1% for most of the second wave.
It was in May that more covid death without co-morbidities began to occur.
When the second wave claimed more than 4,197 lives in Bengal that month, more than 55% of them did not have co-morbidity.
In fact, more people without ko-morbidity die in May (the death of 2,320 covid) than the year before that.
Until April 30, from the death of 11,344 Covid in Bengal, 2,071 (or 18.3%) of the total covid victims did not have co-morbidity.
Sukumar Mukherjee, which is part of the Covid Country Advisory group, links this with a surge in Delta variant.
“There’s no clear answer for this without a genome sequencing or post-mortem data,” he said.
“But this trend also coincides with more Delta variants found in Bengal since April-May.
This variant is far worse than the variant we saw in the first wave.
Delta also has immune escape properties.” SARS-COV-COV-CONSONSUM DATA PORTAL 2 India (Insacog) also captures what Mukherjee said.
In 472 samples sorted in Bengal in May, 91% had a Delta variant.
In April, 59% and in March, it was only 9%.
“But the analysis of root causes deeper is needed to understand why the kardio-respiratory failure is suddenly reported in the age group of 45-60 years without known ko-morbidity,” Mukherjee said.
Daily Covid Devices tracked by the State Health Department showed that while Covid’s death without co-morbidity floated around 16% on April 1, he jumped up to 30.3% on July 31.
Likewise, Covid’s death in people with co-morbidities was around 84% on April 1, but dropped to 69.7% on July 31.
It was around April that the Covid case began to dive in Bengal.
After July, the case fell sharply.
Sanjukta Dutta, an emergency drug expert in Fortis Hospitals, also showed changes in behavior among Covid patients being hospitalized.
“People now come to the hospital at the far later stage,” he said.
“Basically, people come when they are very critical.
This reduces the window for medical intervention.
In the first wave, this is not the problem.” Covid deaths in Bengal have been in the 60-75 year age group, accounting 41.7 % of total deaths.
Group ages 45-60 years have contributed 26.5%.
The least death in groups 16-30.
Hypertension and diabetes remain the main co-morbidity in Covid’s death in all age groups.
