Kolkata: Bengal received a new advocate general in S N Mookerjee on Tuesday after Kishore Datta in power resigned by quoting “personal reasons”.
A Cambridge University law graduate, Mookherjee has followed in the footsteps of his father Satyabrata Mookherjee to complete the bar-daughter-in-law at Lincoln’s Inn before returning home to practice.
“I’m really grateful for this honor,” said Mookerjee.
“I will work in a constitutional framework and will try to complete justice,” he added.
“The battle will be legally fought,” he said about several cases of the laws of the centers in the Calcutta of the High Court and the Supreme Court.
Previously, on Tuesday morning, Datta sent his one-page resignation letter to Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, Minister of Law Moloy Ghatak and the Head of the Secretary of Bengal H K Divedi.
AG designated in February 2017, Datta wrote he resigned with “direct effects, for personal reasons”.
“It was an extraordinary experience working for the West Bengal government,” he added.
Post the Datta resignation letter on Twitter, the Governor said: “In the case of Article 165 the Constitution has received (resignation) with the direct effect.” Two hours later, the governor posted about the promise of Tookherjee.
Ownership of General Advocates usually for five years, but it has been shorter in four final examples.
Anindya Mitra, Jayanta Mitra, Bimal Chatterjee and Datta are all included in their paper as AG before the five-year term expires.
Mookerjee’s father, Satyabata, known in the law brotherhood like Julu Mookherjee, was a state union minister in the Vajpayee government and also BJP Bengal President.
Mookherjee studied the economy as a scholar at the Presidency College and enrolled in the Calcutta University MA course.
But six months later, he went to Cambridge to study the law.
Mookherjee did his school at St Xavier until the class V and then went to Doon School.
He became a senior advocate in 2003.
