Kulpi: Kulpi Bridge, which is closed for repairs for almost a month, will immediately function.
The bridge is very important for tourists leading from Kolkata to places such as Bakkhali, Frazergunj, and Gangasagar, regardless of connecting areas such as Namkhana, Kakdwip, Patharpratima.
The bridge on the national highway 117 was closed after Durga Puja when officials pay attention to some damage that needed immediate improvement.
While some repair work is being carried out, a major improvement begins after the puja is over.
The police must make a decision to divert traffic earlier this week.
After the bridge is closed temporarily, tourists and commuters must take a detour.
On the normal day, 8km stretching from Hatugunj to Kulpi took more than 10 minutes.
This detour requires commuting to take 8 km away to reach more kulpi.
This transfer also causes traffic congestion that leads to increased travel time.
Suparna Mukherjee, who has traveled to Bakkhali recently, said the detour took additional hours to reach the sea coast.
“For anyone traveling from Kolkata, traffic congestion takes extra time.
It varies between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.
We did not know the transfer of traffic at first and stuck near the narrow road,” said Mukherjee.
Sukanta Saha, Diamond Harbor’s sub-division officer, said the improvement was very necessary.
“We are aware of travel trips carried out locals and tourists now.
The main improvement is completed.
The last phase of a major repair work requires traffic transfer.
We are looking for cooperation with locals and tourists,” he said.
Executive Engineer PWD Kaushik Sengupta said the damaged part under the bridge was replaced.
“Some servings that have concrete structures have been replaced.
But we need traffic transfer to complete work.
We hope to finish the job at the end of the week,” he said.
