Kolkata: The largest Covid-19 hospital in Bengal – Superspecialty Mr.
Bangur Hospital – all arranged to reopen the door to non-Covid patients from January 3, after a gap of almost two years.
The decision was taken by the State Health Department after considering the fact that the Covid graph in Bengal remained stable for three to four months now.
“There is a sustainable increase in Covid-19 detention in the state.
Bed housing has dropped drastically while there is an increasing increase from non-covid patients.
Therefore, it is only wise to start caring for non-covid patients at the Bangur Hospital.
While Some of it continues to serve Covid’s positive, “said a senior health department official.
All other non-covid services offered by the hospital before the pandemic will now continue.
These include OPD services and inpatients in departments such as general surgery, physical drugs, orthopedics, eyes, ent, teeth, plastic surgery and emergency services.
While the old block will continue to function as a Covid hospital, supplespect building will be opened for general patients.
“New Superspecialty buildings that have around 500 beds will be opened for non-covid patients while we will continue to operate 350 covid beds,” said Mr.
Bonsur Medical Inspector Comb Naskar.
The source said the new building will undergo repairs, including sanitis, so the block is ready to take in general patients from January.
The hospital was converted into a complete Covid hospital during the first wave of pandemic.
Even when it starts with only around 300 beds, the facility continues to expand its covid bed to coincide with a surge in pandemic.
Of the 441 beds in April, the Ministry of Health increases the number of beds to 713 during the two wave waves.
While all 713 beds remain operational, only around 100 covid patients are accepted now.
From them, around 40% are fine or very infected.
During a pandemic, the hospital has served more than 15,000 patients.
Although the hospital OPD service shifted to Baghajatin Hospital, doctors said that this alternative facility had limited infrastructure.
“Before Covid, our OPD footsteps will be around 2,000 pluses on the daily average,” Naska said.
“The reopening of non-Covid services will become gains for patients and PG students,” said a faculty consultant.
With the increase in Covid scenario, the previous state health department has converted part of a covid bed to a non-covid bed in many hospitals, including medical college hospitals.
