Kolkata: a large number of covid patients who are critically ill now in the treatment in the private hospital Icus are not vaccinated and have chosen to skip inoculation of fearful side effects, said doctors and hospitals.
Some cannot get vaccines because they are limited to beds and cannot travel to the vaccination center.
Experts believe these patients – most senior citizens with comorbidity – could be very affected so they took a shot.
Some such patients have died over the past four weeks since the omicron wave hit Kolkata and Bengal, has been shown.
About 35% -40% of patients who recognize on the RN Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS) are not vaccinated or just receiving a single dose.
Nearly 60% of these patients, said the doctor, had not received one shot.
“We currently have 30 patients in Covid’s critical care.
From this, eight has not been vaccinated at all.
Three of them have taken one dose and 19 the rest has both doses.
Three patients with a single dose are infected with Covid before the due date for the second dose.
Most of the eight patients without doses prefer to jump over vaccination for various reasons, “said Zonal Head RTIICS R Venkatesh.
“This clearly refers to the fact that those without vaccinations are more susceptible to severe illnesses.
In fact, the majority of Covid patients are now not vaccinated,” said RTIICS intensive Sauren Panja.
However, he added that a small portion of Covid patients who were not vaccinated had more severe comorbidity.
Nearly 30% of critical care patients at Woodlands Hospital were not vaccinated by choices.
Four of 15 patients at Woodland’s Covid Icu didn’t even take a vaccine dose.
“These patients still have not been vaccinated by choices.
Eleven other patients today in the ICU have taken both doses.
Those who without vaccines are more affected,” said Rupali Basu, Managing Director & CEO, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital.
About 5% of Covid patients who were seriously ill at peerless hospitals had not been vaccinated for the past month.
Of the six patients now claimed, someone had not received any vaccine.
“We have had patients who are not vaccinated consistently for the past month.
Although the amount is low, they have all been very affected and need that acceptance.
Nearly half of them have died,” said CEO of Peerless Hospital Sudipta Mitra.
The percentage that is much higher than those who have severe covid are not vaccinated than their vaccination colleagues, said Director of the King Dhar CMRI Pulmonology Hospital.
The two main reasons behind missing vaccines have become uncertainty about the effects and efficacy and immobility of the patient.
