Kolkata: From a 35-year-old novice doctor to 75 years old medical, Covid has claimed the lives of several medical officers who served patients during a pandemic.
Viruses have grabbed at least 65 doctors in Bengal during the second wave.
On Thursday, while the nation celebrated the doctor’s day, the medical brotherhood was busy at the Ward hospital caring for patients.
While the number of Covid patients has dropped dramatically, doctors continue to struggle to save the lives of patients in critical condition.
And those who do not take care of Covid patients again take care of the increasing number of non-covid patients.
“The world came to destroy us when my husband died in January.
But life must continue.
My two children and I am proud of the way my husband serves his patient.
I hope his students and juniors will promise to advance their work as a reward for his work,” said the eye doctor Swati Ray Bandyopadhyay.
Her husband bissyopadhyay, one of the pioneers in pediatric cardiology in East India, surrendered to Covid last January.
The 52-year-old player was tied to the RN Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences and had worked until the day before the entire family was detected positively against infection.
Ray Bandopadhyay, who worked with several charitable organizations, was busy looking at patients on Thursday.
The Covid team in infectious diseases managed by the Government and Belowaghata Hospital are in the ward that hates patients, including 15 critical.
Specialist infectious diseases Yogiraj Ray won several hours to be in Swasthya Bhavan for lunch with senior health officials.
Ray rushed back to the hospital.
Until the afternoon, the team was busy trying to shift a 37-year-old patient to a hospital that had ECMO facilities.
“Even in ventilation, the patient’s oxygen saturation continues to be very dangerous.
He is only 37 and we want to save him,” Ray said.
“Of the 30 patients during the peak, it is now down to 16.
But because the condition of each patient is very critical, they need careful monitoring.
Our efforts are saved each and we can celebrate only after that,” said Medica Superspecialty Hospital Specialist ECMO Arpan Chakraborty.
One of 16 patients was a senior neurosurgeon from a government hospital.
Bengal Obtretics and Gynecological Society (BOG) observed the day by contributing blood where 25 doctors, including his president Bhaskar Pal contributed blood.
“That’s the way we observe the day and pay tribute to a colleague doctor that we lost in the pandemic,” said Gynecologist Basab Mukherjee.
While the first wave has claimed as many as 105 doctors in Bengal between March and December 2020, the number has dropped to around 65 in 2021.
“Covid has reversed the world for all of us.
At least four doctors who are missing from the pandemic are close to me.
But then we Can’t stop seeing patients, “said Director of Pulmonology Raja Dhar.
Pulmonologists who have cared for covid patients throughout the pandemic have been infected once.
On Thursday he was busy with patients and academics.
Some doctors who lost the city include 40-year-old Khandelwal Rashmi, Kumar and Yogesh Bhavishi aged 35 years (62).
Many doctors observed the day as the day of the covid martyr, paying tribute to the missing doctor.
