Kolkata: Irrigation department officials held a meeting with representatives of Dum Dum Selatan and the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) on Wednesday to write plans to remodel Bagjola and Kanal Ktopur to prevent waterlogging.
“The meeting was held to discuss how the plan could be implemented with better coordination among the engineers of department and government institutions,” said an official.
The Central Air Commission has put the seal of his approval on the plan to increase the pump home discharge capacity in the Kulti Outfact Off Canal Bagjola from 1,650 Cusec to 4,000 Cusec.
A comprehensive plan for the Bagjola and Ktertopan canal is being prepared by the irrigation department that will include canal dredging.
The plan is also ongoing to regulate a new sewerage processing plant, officials said, adding that stretching along the canal may be fenced in places, where garbage was disposed of, so it clogs the canal that loses its capacity to remove rainwater.
This caused waterlogging in Bidnagar, Rajarhat, South Dum and a new city.
The bagjola canal 38km, which carries water along the BT Road before entering Rajarhat, is the main drainage outlet for South Dum Dum, New City and Bidhannagar.
