Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the second campus of 460 beds at the Chittaranjan Cancer Research Institute (CNCI) in Rajarhat on Friday.
The Chairman of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee will also be present in the inauguration, which will be held virtually.
This campus is built at a cost of Rs 530 Crore.
This center has provided Rs 400 Crore while the remaining expenditure is provided by the state government in the ratio of 75:25.
It will work as a sophisticated cancer research center and will serve patients from East India and northeast.
Autonomous body under the center, CNCI is the only cancer hospital managed by the government in Bengal so far.
Starting in 1950, CNCI facilities in Hazra are under extraordinary pressure due to the increasing burden of the patient.
The expansion plan for the new campus in Tollygunge, which has been compiled in 2005, must be canceled because of the unavailability of adequate land.
The proposal for the Rajarhat unit was made in 2008.
Pandemi has delayed the inauguration of new campuses spread across 10 hectares of land.
