Kolkata: The Bengal Assembly on Tuesday issued a resolution against the central decision to extend the jurisdiction of border security from 15 to 50 kilometers in the Indian-Bangladesh border.
This step, said the “attack” center decision on the Indian federal structure, was fine with a voice of 112-63 and made the second country’s Bengal after Punjab opposed the extension of BSF’s jurisdiction in Assam, Bengal and Punjab.
“We demanded this decision immediately withdrawn,” said Parliamentary Minister Parha Chatterjee while moving the resolution.
It is a “tactic” to build control in the border district, he added.
“BSF will have control over 32,400 Area Bengal 88.752SQ km.
This is a tactic to seize power through backdoor,” Chatterjee said.
BJP MLA and opposition leader Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said the center had to extend the BSF jurisdiction to 80 km in the border.
“The state government opposed the withdrawal of central troops from Jangalmahal but also opposed to extending BSF’s jurisdiction,” Adhikari said, showing “dichotomy”.
Adhikari also referred to the Bengal CM letter Mamata Banerjee wrote to PM Narendra Modi and wanted Chatterjee to wait for the mod to reply.
Chatterjee, however, said the state government was waiting for a reply to PM for 23 days.
“The center sent the Secretary of the Workers’ Union House to Kolkata but did not have the courtesy to reply to CM letters,” he said.
There was a commotion during the debate when Dinhata Trinamool MLA Udaya Guha commented on female fans by BSF personnel on duty along the border.
“BSF personnel touched them inappropriately on the pretext of doing a search.
A child who lives along the border cannot be patriotic if he sees the suffering of Mother; it doesn’t matter how high the ‘bharat ki jai’ slogan you,” said Guha.
BJP Mlaas was led by Natabari Mla Mihir Goswami Wanted Assembly Speaker Banner Banerjee to pronounce the “degrading” comment from the process.
The geta then looked up from his chair and threatened Goswami.
However, the speakers that looked annoyed, held back so they did not cause comments.
