WB: Surge in Covid now pushes a count of patients in an icus

Kolkata: The number of infected Covid-19 requires intensive care treatment gradually increases.
Although it was still far lower than what was witnessed by the hospital during the second wave, serious cases had begun to drip as a covid number as a whole continued to rise sharply in the city and throughout the country.
At present, among Covid-19 patients who recognize in various hospitals, around 10% -20% are under intensive care.
“There is a gradual increase in the number of covid patients who need intensive care care.
Even 10 days ago, we only have seven patients in the critical care unit.
This number has now increased by 20,” said the critical care specialist Sauren Panja at the Tagore International Institute RN of cardiac sciences.
The doctor said most of them in the ICU are now mostly over 60 years and have comorbid conditions.
While around 30% of them come for the treatment of other diseases and Covid-19 is the detection of opportunities, the rest has come for care after positive testing.
“In the second wave, we have around 50% of Covid’s total entrance tickets that require good care in the ICU or HDU.
This time, the percentage so far is around 20% in my unit.
Of the 22 patients who need ICU care, most of the above 70 years and have a variety of heart disease, kidneys and diabetes that are uncontrolled.
During the last wave, we see many younger patients who need ICU care, “said Pulmonologist Raja Dhar from CMRI.
In Belle Vue Clinic, Covid patients exceeded their numbers in non-covid wards on Thursday.
Of all 183 patients who admit at this time, 102 were covid patients.
“The number of patients is increasing and therefore we have increased Covid beds reaching 125.
We have 19 patients in the ICU.
But this time, oxygen demand by this critical patient is moderate,” said Belle Vue CEO of the Pradip Tondaon clinic.
“So far, the number of patients who need intensive care is still very low because only seven of 62 covid patients with us are at it.
Thirty of them are above 70 years,” said CEO of Peerless Hospital Sudipta Mitra.
At Level IV Covid Hospitals such as infectious diseases & public buying (ID & BG), the number of patients who need relatively higher intensive care.
This is because Covid Nodal Hospital gets a serious patient referred to from another hospital.
“Those who need oxygen most are patients over 60 years with co-morbidity and also many of them have not taken vaccines.
Some are partially vaccinated,” said Asis Manna, medical supervisor and deputy head of hospital ID & BG.
However, health experts say the pressure on the CCU can rise with an increase in infected amounts.
“So far, most cases are mild, including infected patients for the second time after recovery from ECMO treatment.
But we need about two more weeks to ensure about this trend and do not take the current wave lightly, think it will cause mild disease for all , “The critical care specialist was promised by Chatterjee from the Medica Superspecialty Hospital.
