Kolkata: Bengal walking short syringes used to manage the Covid-19 vaccine.
The number of syringes obtained by the state is consistent with the number of doses received.
But Bengal has registered negative waste, managing more doses than what has actually been received.
This has resulted in consumption more syringes than provided, causing their shortcomings.
The state government will now do around 20 lakh syringes to fill this deficiency.
“There are some disadvantages of syringes because we have given additional doses of bottles.
It consumes more syringes that are not supplied by the central government.
So, we will buy around 20 lakh syringes,” said Director (Health Services) Ajay Chakraborty.
According to sources, the state government has also written to the center to provide additional syringes he used.
And if the inventory does not come, the Ministry of Health will buy syringes that cost around RS 5 each.
“At present, we have negative waste about 7%.
As a result, we have provided almost 16 additional doses of the total vial we get so far.
But the central government supplying syringes that are in accordance with the number of doses sent to us.
Therefore , the gap in the number of syringes provided and consumption, “said a state health department official.
According to health officials, efficient dosage administrators can draw 11 doses of the vial containing 10 doses.
And vaccinators in the country have done it specifically in the case of covishield, inoculating one additional per bottle in many cases.
“So far, Bengal has received 3 doses of crore (combination of covishield and covaxin) from the central government.
In addition, the country has bought 17.7 lakh doses itself between May and June,” said the Welfare of the Welfare of the State of Ashim Das Malangakar.
The source said that the state government had bought only 10 lakh syringes for the dose of 17.7 lakh that had been purchased alone.
It also eats into the stock of syringes.
Health officials, however, said that the syringes used in covid-19 inoculation drives are equal to syringes used for universal vaccinations, making it possible for them to vaccinate despite supply shortages.
“We have been able to fill the gap in the supply of syringes and consumption from our stock available at the store.
But now, the deficiency figure has reached around 20 lakh syringes.
Therefore, we need to get a syringe to avoid the crisis in the future,” said a source.
