Kolkata / Santiniketan: Upset by the command of the VISVA-BHARATI authority to limit into various Bhavans or schools at the University and entrust the responsibility of access with the head of each department, several heads of the science department have threatened to quit their position, by saying that they are academics, not chowkidars.
While V-B officials declined to comment, the sources said the University’s authority had asked HODs to continue to function with a guarantee that their peeve-points would be reviewed.
Verbal order to submit the responsibilities of access control to their department was issued after the plumbing was stolen from the Department of Chemistry and the basin in the toilet that was damaged a week ago.
Although police complaints usually nest when there are theft or damage, it is not done in this case.
VC Bidyut Chakrabarty visited the department on Wednesday and requested the closure of the gate of Siksha Bhavan.
On Thursday, Chakrabarty was reportedly ordered the principal of Siksha Bhavan (Dean of Science) Taraprasad Chattopadhyay to tell all HODs to maintain reports of everyone who entered their respective departments and sent it to registrants from time to time.
On Friday, the gate of Siksha Bhavan, Vidya Bhavan and Bhasha Bhavan were closed with only two people who were allowed to enter at a time after the previous permission of the registrant.
The third person had to wait for one of them to leave before being allowed to enter.
“Anyone who wants to access Bhavan, must first send a message to the principal in question, who will then continue to the security officer.
The list will be stored at the entrance of each Bhavana,” said the source.
