WASHINGTON: The United States has not made a determination on the potential to neglect of sanctions against India for the purchase of the S-400 missile defense system from Russia, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that American enemies against sanctions (Caatsa) did not have a blanket or provision of state-specific neglect.
The Joe Biden government also urged “all of our allies, partners” to forget transactions with Russia at risk of triggering sanctions under Caatsa, the spokesman said in response to reports that Russia had delivered the S-400 to India.
India has signed a USD 5.43 billion contract with Russia for the purchase of five S-400 surfaces to the air missile system during the Indian-Russian-Russian annual bilateral summit in New Delhi in October 2019, for long-term security needs.
Washington has indicated that the Russian S-400 system can trigger Caatsa sanctions.
Caatsa is a United States federal law that imposes sanctions on Iran, North Korea and Russia.
Caatsa authorizes US administration to impose sanctions on countries that buy large defense hardware from Russia in response to the Annexation of Crimea Russia in 2014 and alleged Empedling in US Presidential Elections 2016.
In the middle of the call from US senators to release sanctions against India , a spokesperson clarified that Caatsa did not have a blanket or provision of state-specific neglect.
“We urge all of our allies and partners to forget Transactions with Russia who are at risk of triggering sanctions under American enemies against America’s Act (Caatsa).
We have not made a determination to the potential for neglect with regard to Indian weapons transactions with Russia.
Caatsa does not have a blanket or neglecting provisions Especially for the country, “said the spokesman.
“The US-India defense partnership has developed significantly in recent years, worth the status of India as the main defense partner.
We expect this strong momentum in our defense partnership to continue.
We appreciate our strategic partnership with India,” spokesman added.
