WASHINGTON: The Biden government has named a CIA career official to coordinate the intelligence community’s response to the threat of election from Russia, China and other enemies.
Jeffrey Wichman named Executive Election threats by Avril Haines National Intelligence Director on Friday, said Nicole de Haay, a spokesman for Haines.
Wichman has served in the CIA for more than 30 years in the role of the top contraintelence and cybersecurity, De Haay said.
His appointment was first reported by the New York Times.
The appointment came in the midst of traffic jams to create a new intelligence center that prevented foreign interference in American democracy.
While experts and intelligence officials said the center of the influence of the proposed foreign slandering, the intelligence community and Congress had not agreed to the size and budget of the central.
Executive Election Threats are responsible for coordinating all election security efforts throughout the 18-member intelligence community, which includes institutions that detect and block cyberatack, information campaigns and efforts to influence politicians and policy debates.
Previous executives, Shelby Pierson, were at the spotlight after giving a closed door briefing to MPs for Russia’s efforts to interfere in the 2020 election for the former president Donald Trump.
That Trump was angry, which formed the national intelligence director and then replaced it.
Pierson has since taken another intelligence post.
