WASHINGTON: President Joe Biden will require unnecessary travelers, not residents who cross US land boundaries, such as truck drivers, government officials and emergency response, to be fully vaccinated on January 22, the government plans to announce Tuesday.
A senior administrative official said the requirements, the White House were blessed in October, carrying rules for important travelers in line with those who began to apply earlier this month for recreational travelers, when the US reopened its borders for individuals who were fully vaccinated.
Important tourists entering by the ferry will also be asked to be fully vaccinated on the same date, the official said.
The official spoke to the Associated Press in anonymity condition to preview the announcement.
Rules relate to non-US citizens.
American citizens and residents may still enter the US regardless of their vaccination status, but face additional testing obstacles because officials believe they are easier to contract and deploy Covid-19 and to encourage them to get shots.
The Biden government pushed back the requirements for more than two months of travelers since it came into force on November 8 for visitors who were not important to prevent interference, especially among vital truck drivers for North American trade.
While most cross-border traffic is closed in the early days of pandemic, important travelers have been able to transit without obstacles.
Even with delays, Norita Taylor, spokesman for the Independent Driver Association operator of the truck group, criticized vaccination requirements, called it an example “how the government’s unnecessary mandate can force the owner owners and independent truckers.” “This requirement is another example of how Impractical regulations will send safe drivers from the road, “he said.
The latest deadline is outside the point where Biden administration hopes to have a large business requires their employees to vaccinate or tested every week under emergency regulations issued by the Health and Safety Administration.
The rule is now postponed by litigation, but the White House has encouraged businesses to implement their own mandates regardless of federal requirements with the aim of increasing vaccination.
About 47 million adults in the US still were not vaccinated, according to the numbers of controlling centers and prevention of disease.
