We plan to hold Trophy Ranji in two phases: BCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal

New Delhi: BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal on Thursday said that the council intends to hold the trophy of the Ranji in “two phases” after they were forced to delay the main class competition due to the increasing Covid-19 case in the country.
The Ranji trophy consisting of a 38-class class team is scheduled to begin on January 13 but postponed without limits because of the third wave of Covid-19.
With BCCI plans to start the IPL from March 27, it is practically impossible to hold a tournament in one way but after the request of many state units, Kuningan held a meeting to discuss the road ahead.
“We are exploring the possibility of staging Trophy Ranji, cases rise when postponed, now they seem to go down.
The operation team is working on whether we can do the league stage next month and complete the rest of the tournament later (Post IPL),” said Dhumal to PTI after the meeting .
The meeting was also attended by President BCCI Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah.
Until now, the plan is to hold a league phase for a month, starting in February to March and then has the next phase in June-July, when the rainy season starts in many parts of India with summer peaks in several other parts.
“The operation team will overcome logistics and factors in the weather, the availability of venues and the availability of players.
We are very interested in managing tournaments and that is why we explore all the possibilities to tighten them without sacrificing the safety of players,” Dhumal added.
This pandemic plays Spoilsport last season because BCCI only has two-sons white ballours (Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy).
BCCI paid 50 percent of the previous match fees as compensation for all first class crickets that had suffered financial losses.
If it is not held this year, it will greatly affect the BCCI Cricket line such as India Team, which is mainly chosen based on the performance of the Trophy Rani.
