Islamabad: Biden government secretly pressed Pakistan to work together in fighting terrorist groups such as IS-K and Al-Qaeda following the takeover of the Afghan Taliban, according to a set of leaky documents and diplomatic cables to US media outlets.
Fajar’s paper on Saturday brought a report citing a report published on Friday by Politico in many diplomatic messages exchanged between Washington and Islamabad recently after the Taliban guerrillas confiscated power in Afghanistan.
The messages showed that “Biden administration secretly pressed Pakistan to work with battle groups such as IS-Khorasan and Al-Qaida after the takeover of the Afghan Taliban”, Politico, who obtained sensitive cables but were not classified, and other written materials , reported.
In response, Pakistan “has signaled that Islamabad deserves public recognition about his role in helping people now escape from Afghanistan, even because it has underestimated concerns about what can mean by the Taliban rules”, according to the report.
The messages showed that Washington saw Pakistan as “a nation with a link to the Taliban whose cooperation by fighting terrorism can help.
This is also a nuclear armed US official who prefers not to lose Chinese influence,” the report said.
