Washington: The United States touched several countries, including Russia and the United Arab Emirates, to restore civil government in Sudan, US special envoys for Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman said on Tuesday.
“We relate to a number of nations, including the UAE to recover [government] civilian government in Sudan,” Feltman told journalists.
Talking about the position of Russia in Sudan, Feltman noted that Washington was concerned about the initial Russian statement after the October 25 military takeover in Sudan.
“But if you see the Security Council statement [UN] coming out, which is signed by Russia, you will see it far more in line with the international consensus, concern with stability, the need to return to the transition and the need to work in a constitutional framework and nonviolent dialogue, “He said.
The US has “relate to Russia again to compare records and coordinate positions,” according to Feltman.
“I can’t say that our position overlaps completely.
There are some similarities in what we want to see – Sudan becomes stable and we want to ensure that the situation in the field remains without violence,” he concluded.
On October 25, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and several other members of the government were detained by the military.
On the same day, the Sudanese military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who also the head of the Sudan Sovereign Board, stated an emergency and dissolved the council and the state government.
On the same day, US, Britain and Norway issued a joint statement that condemned military actions in Sudan.
