Mexico City: The United States will send Mexico 8.5 million more doses of Covid-19 vaccine because the Delta variant moves the wave of the infection of the three countries, said Mexican officials on Tuesday.
Secretary of Favor Secretary Marcelo Ebard said the US government will send astrazeneca and modern vaccines, although the latter has not been approved by the Mexican regulator.
US Vice President Kamala Harris told Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador from new shipments during Monday’s call, Ebard said.
However, on Tuesday, the Secretary of the Press White House Jen PSAKi was less certain.
“We don’t have something confirmed at this time in terms of numbers or timelines on the decision,” he said.
When the third wave of Mexico began, hospitalization and death was significantly left behind.
But hospitalization began to rise in parts of the country because infections develop rapidly and the health system grew more stressful.
“The emergence of new cases is far greater than we see in the first and second waves,” said Public Health Specialist Miguel Betancourt.
The Delta variant is far more contagious likely responsible.
“With this speed we see, the risk of hospital saturation is very high.” Mexico has received 91.2 million doses of five different vaccines, around 73 million of them have been applied.
About 51 million people have received at least one dose and 27 million have been fully vaccinated.

Another change between the two waves is that most of the new infections this time is not at 60 years and above, but more aged 20 to 50 years.
Death is lacking in all age groups.
Betancourt said the focus of infection in the younger age group was due to a lower proportion of vaccinated, they were working age so that they were more likely to come out and they were more bored with restrictions and were ready to return to some resemblance of normal life.
Mexico has seen more than 244,000 deaths confirmed testing, but the country does a little test and study of death certificates shows that the number of victims is almost 370,000.
Federal health officials placed the city of Mexico on Friday red warnings, the level determined by the case expense, the availability of hospital beds and the level of change in these factors and others.
Mayor of Mexico City Claudia Sheinbaum has so far opposed restrictions that can reduce economic activity, on the grounds that the vaccination rate must be increased.
Betancourt said the possibility of closing restaurants and bars or limiting public transportation is now impossible.
He said officials must re-emphasize the steps that have been shown to reduce transmission: wearing a mask, keeping distance and just gathering in a well-ventilated area.
“I hope I’m wrong, but I believe now that we see in some places where the hospital saturation is around 70%, we can begin to see an increase in deaths because they will not have the capacity to quickly attend people who become serious and need attention, “Betancourt said.
