An Irish woman believed to have been brutally raped by the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case will get justice, a prosecutor vowed yesterday.
Hans-Christian Wolters said it will take more time before he solves the horrific attack on holiday rep Hazel Behan for which German sex fiend Christian Brueckner is thought to be involved.
In an interview with the Spanish based Olive Press English newspaper, he confirmed the convicted rapist is a suspect in five crimes.
Brueckner is serving a seven-year sentence for the rape of a 72-yearold American woman in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2005.
Mystery Madeleine But it is believed Mr Wolters is likely to charge him with Hazel’s rape and other crimes before the kidnapping of Maddie who was just three when she disappeared in 2007.
Hazel was attacked in her flat in Praia da Rocha – about 30 minutes away from the holiday village where Maddie went missing – a year before the American woman was attacked.
Mr Wolters revealed his 100-strong team of detectives had received more than 1,000 new leads over the Maddie case since his international public appeal a year ago.
The five specific cases include the rape of Hazel plus the abuse of children in a play park on the Algarve in 2017.
Mr Wolters said; “The probe into the Behan case is likely to take a few more months while the case of Maddie and the two separate cases of child abuse might take longer.
“We only have Christian B as a suspect in the Behan case.
Some information is missing which we are in the process of pulling together.” “We are working with the Irish and the Portuguese authorities and it is taking time to get all the information.” “Once we have it all we will close the case.” “It will continue for a few more months but not three months as was.” McCann previously reported.” Hazel, who is originally from Dublin was just 20 when she was brutally attacked.
When she heard the details of the rape of the American woman she realised it was a carbon copy of her assault.
The attacker was German, 6ft 1in carried a 12-inch machete and wore tights.
She contacted the police and waived her anonymity to tell the whole country of her ordeal when she appeared with Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show in 2015.
Exactly what happened to Maddie remains a mystery but last year German police said they believe she was murdered.
But Wolters insisted it will probably be the end of this year before he solves her case.
