Kolkata: On the occasion of Chhath Puja, the West Bengal government declared a national holiday on 10 and 11 November.
“The state government has stated 10 and 11 November as a national holiday because of Chhat Puja,” said Head of Bengal Bangerjee Banerjee Banerjee.
The decision was taken in looking at a large population of people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in the state.
Previously on Tuesday, Banerjee inaugurated the Puja Jagadhatri at the Association of Traders Barabazar Posta in Kolkata.
This year, the Chhath Festival began on November 8 with the ‘Nahai Khai’ ritual and would conclude on November 11 with worshipers to do ‘Usha Arghya’ (prayer for sunrise).
The main celebration is on November 10 when worshipers will offer ‘Argha’ to Allah Sun.
