Kolkata: The day after the Bengal Assembly issued a resolution against the central decision to increase BSF’s jurisdiction of up to 50 km in the international border, the central strength said that the state’s concerns about all possible disorders were unfounded.
Bengal argues that the move gave BSF search, hold and capture strength under various central actions at 32,400 SQKM from the SQKM region 88,472 countries.
BSF said it was in “synergy” with state police and had obtained additional power after its jurisdiction increase.
“There are some concerns that BSF will now begin to disturb the state law enforcement engine after the jurisdiction has increased.
It was not true at all,” said Y B Khurania, ADG, BSF (Eastern Command).
“BSF does not have the power of the investigation and registration of FIR.
Whatever the search and seizures we make are submitted to law enforcement agencies.
For them to register fir and advance problems,” Khurania added, trying to clean the air during the recent amendment.
“We have a very convenient relationship with state police.
There is a synergy between state police, BSF and other law enforcement agencies at all levels.
We interact from time to time, and share information and intelligence.
We also conduct joint operations at times, Both on the border and inland, “Khurania said.
Under the BSF Law, 1968, the Center does not need to consult with countries to redrit out the Force region to implement central actions, but need to do it and ratify it in parliament if BSF implements criminal law and the country.
SC has argued that the middle force cannot “replace or replace” the police but must “help” countries.
While Punjab and Bengal opposed the central step, Assam who was ruled by BJP had greeted him.
In 2011, the government’s efforts to change the actions of BSF met with fierce resistance from opposition countries and the bill was withdrawn from Rajya Sabha.
In Bengal, Trinamool Congress, Congress and Left Front have opposed the steps while BJP has defended it.
Filmmaker Aparna strings also opposed the central decision, quoting “excess” in Manipur and Assam.
Dinhata Mla Udayan Gamha Trinamool has raised concerns over alleged female fans who are inappropriate by BSF.
“BSF is a disciplined strength and we do not take the act of dissipline or mild violations.
We have a zero tolerance policy on it.
We immediately investigate whether there are violations and strict actions taken,” Khurania said.
About 4,000 Mahila Seema Prahan has been deployed under the East Command, he added.
Referring to Guha’s comments for the recent shooting on the border, Khurania said that losing life was very unfortunate.
“We do our best not to open fire, and the policy is to use non-deadly strength.
The shot incidents have dropped over a certain period of time.
There are times when our troops are attacked and injured; fatal victims occurred at that time,” he said.
