Kolkata: Railways India has registered a historic logo “toy train” iconic from Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) internationally as its intellectual property (IP), more than two decades after DHR was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.
Whereas DHR plans to monetize the logo by using it in souvenirs, every use of logos anywhere in the world, from now on, requires permission and payment of fees.
DHR was declared a world heritage site on December 5, 1999 by UNESCO.
Toy train services were built between 1879 and 1881, and the length was around 88 km.
Long climbing snakes, road-controlled street cards, from 328ft above sea level in New Jalpaiiguri up to around 7,218 feet in Darjeeling, through the Ghum, the Indian Railway Station (7,407 feet) has become mandatory for tourists for years Who wants to soak in the hills, minus in a hurry to travel everyday.
And while the service has been modernized (six diesel locomotives handles most services scheduled), most of the ancient Heritage of Raj-era has been maintained.
The red panda service from Darjeeling to Kenkeong, a short trip targeted at tourists, still uses the Vintage Steam B-Class B-Class Locomotive, for example.
DHR was recently picked up by the UN Post Administration to make it a part of the Series of the World Heritage Site Stamp.
Before registering to register a logo, DHR worked hard to recover original artwork on the station wall.
“We mine archives to take the oldest artwork available,” said Director of DHR A K Mishra, added that some station buildings have the original original logo.
“Original documents and other items are taken.
This logo is Indian national property.
We need to protect it.” Abad-old-Old logo – DHR has two – has a lot of history behind them and is popular throughout the world.
They are randomly used by various institutions on merchandise, both at home and abroad.
They found used in Europe, especially in the UK, and even in the US.
Because they are not internationally registered, nothing can be done about such use.
One of the two DHR logos in thick black and white letters; Others, with round seals with mountain images, forests and rivers with “Darjeeling Himalayan Railway” written in white letters, is in a green background.
The train board in Delhi and the DHR office in Kurnseong initiated the process of registering a logo with a controller general patent, design and trademark under the Ministry of Trade and the Union industry in August.
It was then sent to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a special UN agent based in Geneva, Switzerland.
Documentation is made in accordance with the procedure specified in the Wienna WIPO classification.
There was a six-month window to register against claims, after claims the Indian government would receive international approval.
